Depression And Fatigue
Depression and fatigue can be related to each other. If you lead a very stressful life and don’t get enough sleep then you may suffer from depression as a result. Most adults need between 7 to 9 hours sleep a night, this gives the body time to repair and heal itself.
If you suffer from insomnia as a result of anxiety and depression then you will feel tired and lack concentration during the day. You may find it hard to focus on tasks at work or simple things such as preparing a meal or doing housework. This may make you feel emotional and very low. Lack of sleep can make you feel depressed, and depression can cause tiredness. as your motivation and drive to do things may have gone.
Worrying and feeling low can sap your strength. You may want to sleep during the day and have little desire to get outside and do things. The best thing to do is to if you are suffering from depression is to go outside and get some fresh air for at least an hour, although you probably don’t feel like it. A walk over the park or your nearest green space will lift your mood. Exercise releases the feel good hormone serotonin and this can help with mild to moderate depression.
Symptoms of depression and fatigue are becoming more common in today’s fast paced lifestyle. More is expected of us as we try to juggle a million things at once. If you constantly feel tired and then can’t sleep at night, you should take action as soon as possible. Depression can lower the immune system and make you susceptible to colds, flu, cold sores, eczema and many other unpleasant conditions. 
Exercise and fresh air will also help you to sleep better at night, allowing your body to get plenty of the deep restorative sleep needed for cell repair and growth.
You may need to see your doctor if you are suffering from depression and fatigue, but if you want a long term cure you have to address the root cause of why you are feeling depressed. A doctor may prescibe anti depressants or sleeping tablets to help you in the short term,
but taking medication for long periods may have side effects and become addictive.
Low self esteem, money worries, relationship problems, work issues, and poor health can all lead to depression and fatigue. Talk to a counsellor if you don’t have anyone to confide in. Often talking to someone can have huge benefits and help you come to terms with a problem or even find solutions.
Diet can help to overcome mild cases of depression since it may be triggered by a lack of essential vitamins and minerals. Eat at least 5 portions of fresh fruit and vegetables every day to boost your vitamin c intake, and also foods containing Vitamin B1, as a lack of this vitamin can cause anxiety and tiredness.
Winter can cause some people to suffer from depression and fatigue. The short, dark days with lack of sunlight can inhibit the production of seratonin, and increase the amount of melatonin. This can make you feel low and tired. You may not feel like getting up in the morning, and continue to feel lethargic during the day. This type of depression is seasonal and is known as seasonal affected disorder.
